The Schedule

We start the year with the opening 8 narrative historical books (the Octateuch!) of the Old Testament. Then, during the season of Lent, we look at books of poetry and the Gospels and Acts. In the Easter season, we turn to the primary letters of Paul. We move through the summer with the story of Israel in the remaining historical Old Testament books, the wisdom books, and the four major prophets. We kick off the fall season with the remaining letters of the New Testament and then finish the year during the holiday season by focusing on the word of God to the people of God in the minor prophets.

This Year of the Bible schedule and content was created by Dr. Joe Weaks. Graphic by Erin Patton.

You are encouraged to:

  • Engage actively with where we are in our series throughout the year.
  • Read the chapter reading the week leading up to that Sunday. There are at most five chapters, so perhaps that could be Mon–Fri.
  • Memorize the memory verse from the book or books that week. There are 66 books, so that means 66 memory verse. That just 66 sentences to memorize over the course of a whole year.
  • Plug into our weekly bible studies that will be covering the book(s) of the week.
  • Participate in the sermon on Sunday in a new way as it arises out of the book you've already set your mind on.
Think about it…
If you actively engage with our Year of the Bible, at the end of the year you will have gotten a sense of every book in the bible, and grown tremendously in your faith journey.
